Kannan uses the physical landscapes and literary tropes of a Tamil cultural universe, picking pictures from tradition (in Braided Lives), familiar sights (in Spilling out in Chickpet) and the comfort of timeless rituals (in Ganga, Aarti and Visarjan) to bring the human condition, echoed and reflected in a world pulled apart by centripetal forces, back towards a center that must hold.
